Wrapping up Summer with Water Day!
Bringing Water Day to Boys & Girls Club
Keeping kids entertained during summer is often a difficult task. The Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix provides families in the area with fun, affordable summer programs for kids grades K-12. Opportunity4Kids was able to sponsor nearly 100 kids to attend camp this summer at the Bob and Renee Parsons Branch; but, we couldn’t stop there. We wanted to continue the fun by hosting a Water Day for the kids on their last day of camp!
The Calm Before the Water Storm
The morning began with a record number of kids excitedly showing up with bathing suits and towels in hand. Board Members and volunteers from the Opportunity4Kids team dedicated their time to fill over a thousand water balloons and create a mini water park on the playground.
Splish, Splash, We Were Havin’ a Blast!
The kids kept cool with sponge cornhole, water launchers, squirt guns, a crazy sprinkler and tons of water balloons! Volunteers joined in the fun by facilitating the water play- handing out water balloons, filling water buckets and of course, hydrating children with Gatorade. In the end, it was apparent that the campers enjoyed using the water launchers on volunteers more than on each other!
Water Day wrapped up with snacks and more Gatorade on the patio while the kids dried off. Opportunity4Kids was thrilled to be able to give the kids of Boys & Girls Club Bob & Renee Parsons Branch a memorable last day of summer camp. We trust that this fun day left the kids feeling refreshed and ready for the upcoming school year!
Huge thank you to Costco Phoenix (44th Street & Oak Street) and Target for their donations towards this event!
